What You Will Learn

1. Chinese for HSK 1

HSK is the most crucial Chinese proficiency test that all learners here will accomplish after learning six levels about learning everyday Chinese conversation.

Participants will learn:

• 30 video lectures with PKU students’ dialogue role plays
• More than 150 generally used words
• 50 key grammar points;
• New words and texts via audio;
• Quizzes for each lesson and HSK test papers;
• Videos for 70 basic Chinese characters (optional);
• Supplementary materials about China (optional).

In short, the course covers the four skills although only listening and reading are tested in HSK. Participants can use simple Chinese phrases, and own the ability to Chinese language studies.

2. Chinese for HSK 2

It allows learners to master simple daily life topics within six weeks.

Participants will learn:

• 24 lecture videos and in-class exercises
• 44 short videos of the context of learning material
• More than 150 new vocabularies, 62 new grammar points as well as relevant pictures and examples
• Downloadable 100 basic Chinese Characters practice charts
• Online quiz weekly and final simulation exam questions.

3. Chinese for HSK 3

It takes 10 weeks that consists of two parts.

Participants will learn:

• 30 video lectures PKU students dialogue role plays
• 300 new words based on HSK 1 and HSK 2;
• grammar points;
• HSK 1 and HSK 2 words’ review
• Audio learning of new words and texts
• Quizzes and HSK test papers

At the end of the course, participants will be able to communicate basic Chinese level for daily and academic. Specifically, participants master grammar knowledge about fundamental sentence structure and usage like sentences with “把”, sentences with “被”(passive voice), comparative sentences and rhetorical questions. Moreover, you will master the meaning of fixed structure and usage of sentences like “….for sb…”(对…来说), “increasingly…” (越来越), and many more.

Instructors

YU Bin 

She got her Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics from China Renmin University. At this moment, she is teaching Chinese as a second language in the School of Chinese as a Second Language at Peking University, She’s been teaching the same subject for about 20 years. Once, she taught Chinese for the University of Cambridge, as Chief Examiner for Cambridge Assessment, and UCL IOE Confucius Institute. She also published books for Chinese GCSE and A-Level. She was one of the writers of the Chinese textbook Jinbu as well.

Chen Li

She is a teacher at the School of Chinese As A Second Language, Peking University; She is also actively teaching at Stanford Program in Beijing.

Liu Lixin

She’s been teaching Chinese for 26 years now, in which her research interest is in the compilation of textbooks for Chinese as a second language and the pedagogy for audio-visual learning.

Lu Yun

She is now an active language instructor at the School of Chinese as a Second Language, Peking University. Getting her Ph.D. degree from Beijing Normal University, she has more than a decade of Chinese –teaching experience.
