What Will You Learn in This Course
Course 1: Consonants of American English Pronunciation
In the early part of this course, you will learn to practice all of the consonant sounds of American English. You will learn how to practice an effective technique called shadowing which is useful to improve your pronunciation of consonant sounds. You can practice this exercise with other instructors and learners.
Course 2: Vowels of American English Pronunciation
After learning consonant sounds, you will learn how to practice all of the vowel sounds of American English. You receive a lot of material including pairs of vowels that may be easy to confuse. The practical advice from successful English learners and practice an effective technique called shadowing will improve your pronunciation of vowel sounds
Course 3: The Music of American English Pronunciation
In this section, you will learn how to practice the music of American English. This music can also be interpreted as the accent you use while speaking American English. You will get material about features of pronunciation such as stress, rhythm, and intonation.
Course 4: The Pronunciation of American English Project
At the end of this course, you must pass a final self-reflection project about consonants, vowels and the music of English. You have to do a post-test, review all the sounds of English, analyze a speech and share your advice.
Everything you learn in this course will allow you to improve your American English skills such as achieve clearer, practice consonant and vowel sounds, more understandable pronunciation of American English, improve communicate more easily and effectively with aspects of the “music” of English.

The Instructors
Helen Nam
Helen Nam has two master’s degrees, TESOL and Philosophy. She is joined with International Programs at UCI and teaches both on-ground and online ESL and teacher training courses.
Marla Yoshida
Marla Yoshida is an academic coordinator and TEFL instructor at the UCI. In the Extension International Programs. She has done teacher training in the US, Japan and Korea.
Meg Parker
Meg Parker is one of the top instructors. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, a Master’s degree in Teaching, and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. In collaboration with UCI, she teaches in the Academic English program for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Emily Wong
This woman has taught ESL or EFL in Japan and the US. At UCI’s International Programs, she is teaching ESL and TEFL courses.
